Please, Help Al

A message to the two readers of this blog:

Please help Al.

This is Al's current road ride:

What is wrong with this picture? Need we start a list?

Listen, forget the list. Al needs your assistance. It's as if his perception of two-wheeled travel on paved roads has taken on a wretched habit of low-grade crack, grape suckers, and crispy fried chicken. Let us all pull our collective experience together and help Al refocus his stellar athletic prowess into an acceptable presentation in the elite world of road cycling. Let's help Al back into the fold.

Step one: Al needs a new bicycle. What should he get?

Damn. Brut-AL. Al sold his Zurich when he got the Cervelo tri bike. Needed the coin. Now he's feelin' a bit more flush and will be dropping coin in the not too distant future. That bike picture is my heavy ass cross bike with roadies on it.

Moveitfred will be ballzzzzz to the wallzzzzzzz in Trenton.

Woodrow? He's got some frakin' excuse of one kind or another as to why he won't be there.

Can you get these Parlees on ebay for, like, 200 bucks?

Al,

You have what I used for CYCLOCROSS!? Good grief!

If you'd like to support the local companies:
IF, Hot Tubes, Zancanato, Igleheart, Parlee, Seven. I think Trek even makes their frames in the USA. My Lemond was.

If you're a cheap eBay whore like I am with small parts. Try a Motobecane or Mercier or Dawes.

If you're a Euro snob get yourself a custom Ridley made in Belgium or a Look made in France.

Or just go to your LBS and find one that has the geometry that fits you who give a flying F what the brand name is?

Mega,

I'll go MTB-ing with ya! I mean have a glorified made-in-taiwan Huffy MTB and all so...

Check out the Castro for that sort of thing in S.F. I can't say what's what in L.A. However, Fred is an old school fag from So Cal. He should be able to steer you right.

Moveitfred understands the new Zanks will come with a gift basket of fresh cheese. Rumor or truth?

Meg!!!!!!!!! Moveitfred needs you to hang out with his daughter at Mercer so he can race!!!!!!!!!! And will JD have any of those soft, soft T's with him? They put Moveitfred right to sleep.

Anyone unloading hot Zanks on ebay?

Go custom built, you can't go wrong. If you don't have the time, drop the cash for a moots, seven, or that bike Fred rides during the summer months on longuylong.

Here's something Al can ROCK!

Bad Bitch

Al will modify by dropping the trainer wheels, pulling off the fenders and adding cantis, and prolly cutting off the basket (although he might keep as a good place to store lubes and gels).

Al, 13 comments so far and about a gram of useful advice. Your current ride looks perfect for the winter. If you need a new road machine, think long and hard about what you're going to do with it. Racing crits and doing 300 mile training weeks are very different. We've seen your unorthodox tri-bike position too. You'll have to be careful buying a road bike if you want to set the bars high like that. If you have back problems, there are a lot of overly stiff bikes you'd want to avoid. If you're going to break the bank, you can buy a $4500 carbon pro frame that's still really a 20k miles throwaway, or you can by something steel or ti that might last three times that for the same money. Don't worry about where it's made. One world, one people.
